We are pleased to announce that the 2019 event will be  held on Sunday 19th May 2019

The runs are set in the stunning rural setting of Welford Estate by kind permission of the Puxley family. The Welford Estate is located near to Newbury, 15 minutes from junction 13 or 10 minutes from junction 14 of the M4.
 

Organised by the parents of Welford and Wickham Primary School pupils, 100% of the profits go to the Welford and Wickham Friends Association, Registered Charity Number 1114025, whose sole purpose is to raise funds for Welford and Wickham Primary School.
 

The event will start and finish at the same point which is on part of the Welford Estate, Welford, Newbury RG20 8HU and will be signposted from the car park. Please note – we are not using Welford House or Park.
 

Fun Runs
The event kick starts with a 500m fun run for children of reception age to 8 years of age, split into 3 groups. 9.20am is the start for Reception & Yr 1 aged children. 9.30am for Yr2/3/4 Girls up to age 8. 9.40am for Yr2/3/4 Boys up to age 8. This run is a road race, running slightly uphill then returning downhill to the finish line. All runners will receive a medal, with trophies for the fastest girl and fastest boy in each run. The cost to enter is £3. Entry on the day, if spaces are still available.
The 500m fun run is followed by a 2.5km fun run open to anyone (adults and children alike) 9 years of age and over. The route is multi terrain across road, track, grassland and woodland. All finishers will receive a medal and there will also be trophies for the fastest girl and fastest boy in the two children’s age categories, 9-11yrs & 12-15yrs. The cost to enter is £5. Entry on the day at £7, if spaces are still available. All runners will have a finish ‘gun’ time, with results published on our website after the race. It starts promptly at 10:00am
 

The 10k 
The 10k run starts at 10:30am and is open to everyone 16 years of age and over. The run is a multi-terrain course; there is a small piece of road and the rest is on track and field with magnificent views over the local countryside.
 

There are short narrow paths, bridleway and wooded areas at times. Every effort will be made to ensure a clear run. There is also a short narrow track where it is possible runners may cross over, at this point please keep to the left and follow the marshal’s instructions.
All finishers will receive a medal with trophies awarded to the overall fastest male and female and then to each male and female winner of the following categories:
1st Veteran Aged 40-49
1st Veteran Aged 50 years plus
1st Parent/Guardian of Welford & Wickham Primary School Pupil
All runners will have a finish gun time, with results published on our website after the race. 
Should you need to retire from the race at any point please notify the nearest marshal who can direct you back to the start or summon a first aider if required.
The distance has been checked using a measuring wheel.
For everyone’s safety runners will not be allowed to use headphones whilst participating.
 

Registration
Registration for all runs will be from 8:30am.
The registration desks will be based in one of the barns near the start. You will also find here a designated area for bag drop - please note that any belongings are left at your own risk as this area will not be secure. The Welford 10k Run and its organisers can take no responsibility for loss or damage of any kind.
500m – please register and collect your wrist band from the registration desk.
2.5k – please register and collect your race number from the registration desk.
10k – please register and collect your race number from the registration desk. There are separate areas for pre-registered and on the day registration.
Complete the reverse of your race number with emergency contact details. Please display your race number on the front of your running shirt – safety pins will be provided. Race numbers are non-transferable.
 

Entries on the day – numbers allowing. Please ensure you check our website before turning up on race day. Runners who enter on the day will need to complete a registration form and pay by cash or cheque only. There will be a separate clearly marked desk for this. Please also note if you are under 18 you must obtain written permission to take part from a parent or guardian and present it at the event.
UKA – affiliated members, please bring along membership proof when you collect your race bib from event registration.
 

Facilities
* Refreshments. Hot & cold drinks, BBQ bacon rolls and Welford Park sausage baps will be on sale throughout the event;
* Toilets;
* Under cover but unsecured bag drop area;
* Water station at the 4.2km point of the 10k run and at the finish for all runners. Marshals will also have a limited supply of water.
 

There will be marshals strategically placed around each route in high visibility vests to help and answer any queries and offer assistance as required. Runners and spectators should follow marshal’s instructions at all times.
 

First Aiders will also be available on the day. If you require medical attention please contact your nearest marshal.
 

Please note there are no changing facilities.
 

Spectators
Spectators are welcome but please bear in mind that the start and finish are based near a working farm forming part of the Welford Estate. All precautions will be taken to cordon off any hazardous areas but please keep an eye on children. No responsibility can be taken for any accidents by the race organisers.
Refreshments will be on sale including BBQ bacon rolls and Welford Park sausage baps.
Please respect this beautiful setting and take all rubbish home.
 

Volunteers
Can you spare a few hours either to help set up before the race, for marshalling, on the check-in desk or to help serve on a stall? Any help would be most welcome, as all the funds raised during the event will go directly to Welford and Wickham Primary School. 
 

Car Parking
The car park will be open from 8:00am Please ensure you leave enough time to park, register and collect your race number before the start of your race. Please follow the car parking marshal’s instructions. There is limited car parking so please consider if you can car share.

Runner Sponsorship
The aim of the event is to raise money for Welford and Wickham Primary School whilst providing an enjoyable fun event for everyone who takes part. For some completing the fun run or 10k could be a major achievement in itself. However, if you are able to further support our charity we would welcome any sponsorship money you might raise from your hard work. Sponsorship forms are available upon request. All profits, and any sponsorship money, from the 10k and Fun Runs will support valuable initiatives for the children of our Primary School.  Thank you for supporting our race with your entry fees, it will make a big difference to our fund raising this year, and hope you enjoy the race.

Results
Results will be posted on the website as soon as possible after the race, and we certainly aim to publish them by the end of the following day.

Directions
 

From M4 (heading West):
Exit M4 at Jct 13, after Jct proceed south on A34 signposted Winchester. After 3 miles turn left signposted A4 Newbury, Hungerford. At roundabout turn right towards Hungerford. At next roundabout take the second exit signposted Stockcross and Wickham (B4000).
After 4 miles you will come to Wickham, turn right into Welford Road, signposted to Welford. After approximately 1 mile Welford Church is on the left, continue to the bottom of this road and turn left, follow signs to car parking.

 

From Newbury:
Leave Newbury on A4 towards Hungerford, as you leave the built up area you proceed across the A34 bypass, at next roundabout take the second turn signposted to Stockcross and Wickham (B4000).
After 4 miles you will come to Wickham, turn right into Welford Road, signposted to Welford. After approximately 1 mile Welford Church is on the left continue to the bottom of this road and turn left, follow signs to car parking.

 

From A34 (heading North):
Leave A34 at turn for A4 Hungerford. At roundabout take third turn to Stockcross and Wickham (B4000).
After 4 miles you will come to Wickham, turn right into Welford Road, signposted to Welford. After approximately 1 mile Welford Church is on the left continue to the bottom of this road and turn left, follow signs to car parking.

 

From A34 (heading South):
Leave A34 at turn for A4 Hungerford. At roundabout take second turn to A4 Hungerford. At the next roundabout take the second turn to Stockcross and Wickham (B4000).
After 4 miles you will come to Wickham, turn right into Welford Road, signposted to Welford. After approximately 1 mile Welford Church is on the left continue to the bottom of this road and turn left, follow signs to car parking.

 

From M4 (heading East):
Leave M4 at Jct 14 (Hungerford, Wantage). Turn left in direction of Wantage (A338) for approximately ¼ mile. Turn right signposted to Wickham (B4000). Go approximately 2 miles to Wickham and turn left to Welford just after the Five Bells Pub.
After approximately 1 mile Welford Church is on the left continue to the bottom of this road and turn left, follow signs to car parking.

 

From Hungerford:
Leave Hungerford on the A338 toward Oxford. Turn right on the B4000, signposted to Wickham. Go approximately 2 miles to Wickham and turn left to Welford just after the Five Bells Pub.
After approximately 1 mile Welford Church is on the left continue to the bottom of this road and turn left, follow signs to car parking.


From Wantage & Lambourn:
Take the A338 or Lambourn Valley road to Great Shefford. After The Swan pub take the next turning on the left, after approximately 2 miles you will see the car park on your left.
Once parked please follow the signs to the Registration and Start.
